Meadow Ridge Donates $10,000 to Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department
Meadow Ridge, a continuing care retirement community in Redding, Conn., recently announced a $10,000 donation to the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department in Redding to help replace two boilers, which will significantly reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
The money saved by cutting energy expenses will help the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department cover the costs of other necessary items, including outfitting new firefighters in turn-out gear. With rising prices due to inflation, the fire department turned to local businesses for support, and Meadow Ridge eagerly stepped in to contribute to the cause.
“We are proud to make this donation to the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department,” said Chris Barstein, Executive Director of Meadow Ridge. “We have a tight-knit community here in Redding, and our local businesses lean on each other for support. Community helping community is what it is all about for us.”
The Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department has played an instrumental role in the community since 1928, when a group of town residents recognized the need for fire protection in the area.
“Today, the men and women of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department are just as dedicated to the preservation of life and property as those who started this organization,” said Sandy Clark, Second Assistant Chief. “In 2020, the Department responded to 766 emergency calls. Our jobs today include not only firefighting, fire prevention and emergency medical service, but hazardous material situations, vehicle extrication and rope and cold-water rescue, just to name a few.”
