First-Ever Downsizing Drive a Big Success

Meadow Ridge recently donated a truck-load of furniture and household goods, as well as some clothing and accessories, to area non-profit organizations as part of its first-ever downsizing drive. The event coincided with a downsizing presentation from Southport-based move manager Andrea Ruby and encouraged residents to donate unneeded items for the benefit of others.

Headboards, dressers, dining sets and a loveseat are among the many furniture items Meadow Ridge donated to Safe Haven as part of their downsizing event in late April.

Supporting Survivors: Generous Donations to Safe Haven

At the conclusion of the 3-day drive, a crew from Southbury’s Marie’s Movers packed up a truck with donated furniture and household goods. The items were delivered to Safe Haven for their acclaimed thrift store, which supports the organization’s efforts to provide women pathways out of abusive environments. Meadow Ridge also delivered donated clothing and accessories to Dress for Success Mid-Fairfield County, an organization that helps women achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in work and life.

“Living with less can mean so much more”

“We’re delighted that these items will go to such good use,” said Ann Sertl, Meadow Ridge Director of Sales and Marketing. “The concept of downsizing is very appealing for our residents and prospective residents, who don’t need everything they’ve collected over the years, but also hate to be wasteful. Meadow Ridge’s donation is an important reminder that living with less can mean so much more for others.”

Unwanted furniture and household items are also frequently sold at Meadow Ridge community tag sales, with the proceeds benefitting the Benchmark One Company Fund which supports Benchmark Senior Living associates facing times of incredible hardship.
